Neon is a colorless, tasteless, and odorless gas that is inert at normal temperatures. The critical temperature and pressure of neon are 228.66℃ and 26.9 × 105 Pa, respectively. Neon is slightly soluble in water. When subjected to low-voltage discharge, it exhibits distinctive red emission spectral lines. Being highly inert, neon does not burn and does not support combustion. The advantages of liquid neon include its low boiling point, high latent heat of evaporation, and safe usability.

It is mainly used for neon lamps and as a filling medium in the electronic industry (such as high-voltage neon lamps, counter tubes, etc.). It is also used in laser technology. Liquid neon can be used as a cold source between 26 and 40K due to its low boiling point. In addition, it has been applied in high-energy physics. For example, bubble chamber with liquid neon is used. Neon oxygen mixture can also be used for breathing instead of helium oxygen.
