Amorphous & Nanocrystalline
Â
In material science, amorphous is a solid whose internal microstructure lacking of long-range order that is characteristic of a crystal.
Amorphous is also called metallic glass.
After metal becomes amorphous, a subsequent heat treatment transforms the initially amorphous microstructure into new form in which fine crystalline grains (average grain diameter of 10-40 nm) embedded in an amorphous residual phase. The new form is called nanocrystalline.
SUNBOW’s iron-based amorphous alloy-SWAM is a product series which are universal solutions in many aspects to commonly use ferrite, silicon steel and iron powder materials, such as: power transformer, inductor, reactor, rotor & stator...
SUNBOW’s iron-based nanocrystalline alloy-SWNA is a product series which are excellent solutions to current transformer (high-precision for electricity meter, high-voltage for substation, and zero-sequence for leakage protection), high-frequency power transformer, and common mode choke (CMC) ...

Manufacturing of SWAM & SWNA
Â
SUNBOW’s amorphous-SWAM & nanocrystalline-SWNA alloys are based on Fe, Si, B and with further additions of Nb and Cu, and produced by rapid solidification technology.
Composition metals melt in furnace under around 1500℃, and turn into liquid metal which pass through a narrow nozzle, and solidify at a rate of approximately 1million degrees/s. Atoms have no enough time to reach microstructure-crystalline state and stay in amorphous state.
A subsequent heat treatment-annealing at around 500~600℃ transforms the initially amorphous microstructure into nanocrystalline state in which fine crystalline grains (average grain diameter of 10-40 nm) embedded in an amorphous residual phase.

features
Â
• The below characteristics of the iron-based amorphous alloys lead to ultra low core loss.
Thinner thickness —1/10 of CRGO;
Higher electrical resistance — two times higher than CRGO;
Lower coercive force —1/3 of CRGO.
• The magnetic devices made with iron-based amorphous alloy could be operated at higher working induction with excellent anti-saturate ability and smaller size, due to the highest saturation induction among all amorphous alloys.
• 3 tailored products of low core loss, excellent overload tolerance, and high saturation could be provided, according to customer’s different requirements.
